Amphiprion ocellaris The Midnight Lightning Clownfish has a dark background coloration with variable white markings that can resemble lightning flashes. Each one is as unique as a fingerprint.
Clownfish are the most popular saltwater aquarium fish in the world, and not just because of Nemo. Their bright coloration makes them attractive to beginners, and their variable patterns and cultivability makes them interesting to advanced aquarists. Captive bred clownfish are among the hardiest and easiest to keep of all saltwater pet fish. They are fully reef safe and will not harm any coral, clam, or ornamental invert. They are peaceful as juveniles, but adult females tend to be territorial. Luckily, they don't require much room, so they work well in nano size aquariums. Thanks to their outgoing nature, they're just as comfortable and entertaining in a large tank.
Clownfish can be kept as singles or pairs in tanks as small as 30 gallons, or in groups in larger tanks. All clownfish are born genderless, then the most dominant in the group will transition to a female, and the next most dominant becomes the male. It's recommended to add multiple clownfish to the aquarium at the same time to prevent aggression, since two female clownfish will not coexist in the same aquarium. Keep an acclimation box on hand to help introduce clownfish to one another in safety if needed.
We recommend a varied diet of frozen meaty foods and Easy Reefs DKI pellets and Masstick, C1 & C2 pellet, Hikari Mysis, and PE Calanus.
Please note: As with most black clownfish, these young clownfish may have more orange or brown coloration that will turn darker as the fish matures.
