Gigas Clam

Details

Tridacna gigas - The Gigas clam is the largest bivalve in the world, growing up to several feet long in captivity. This is a rare, endangered species due to habitat loss and overfishing, and it is seldom offered in the aquarium trade. These young Gigas are sustainably cultured in Palau, and one would make an interesting pet for someone who has an aquarium large enough to house one. They have beautiful iridescent blue dots on a tan background, but their claim to fame is their astounding size as adults. They are a beautiful reef safe sessile invertebrate that is sure to be the center piece in large reef aquariums.

These clams require bright lighting, nutrients, and stable calcium and alkalinity in the aquarium to grow and thrive. Feeding on Easy reefs Easy Booster Be sure to acclimate the new clam slowly to new lighting.
