Lightning Maroon Clownfish

Premnas biaculeatus -The Lightning Maroon clownfish is a larger species of clownfish that is a beautiful red/maroon with a lacey or lightning white pattern. If you have Bubble Tip anemones and are looking for a clownfish that the anemones naturally host, the maroon clownfish is perfect. This species of clownfish tends to be a bit more aggressive than standard ocellaris or percula clownfish making them great addition to larger tanks with other semi-aggressive tank mates.

The Lightning Maroon clownfish has a fascinating history in our hobby. Maroon Clownfish normally have the typical white bars that other clownfish do, but a very rare female was discovered in the wild in 2010 that had an amazing "lightning" pattern. Renowned fish breeder Matthew Pedersen took on the important breeding project, pairing her with a suitable male. The resulting offspring introduced this beautiful clownfish morph to the hobby as we know them today, and countless hobbyists are now able to enjoy and breed them.
