Holacanthus africanus - The African Angelfish is a large species of angelfish with a "pet" personality that goes through a fascinating and extreme transition from juvenile to adult. Juveniles are bright blue and black, and over the next couple years as they age their pattern morphs and changes until they finally reach their adult coloration which is a subtle yellow-olive color. because these fish are in a constant state of change, we're not able to guarantee a particular color or pattern.
These fish are captive bred in the USA and are well conditioned and hardier than wild caught, even eating easy-to-feed prepared foods. This is why we can offer a generous 7 day livestock guarantee. We recommend a diet that includes angelfish specific foods containing sponge and tunicate. They also readily consume small pellets, frozen mysis, Spirunlina brine shrimp, and seaweed. Young fish should be fed an average of 3 - 5x a day.
This species is semi-aggressive as an adult and generally not reef safe, as it may pick at coral polyps, LPS corals, soft corals, and clams. The maximum adult size is 12". Be sure to use an acclimation box when introducing new fish to a tank with established fish. Current sale size ~2"+
