False Personifer Angelfish

Details

Chaetodontoplus meredithi -  The Poma Labs False Personifer Angelfish, also known as Meredith's Angelfish, is a bold and impressive member of the Pomacanthidae family. Reaching up to 14 inches in length, this species is best suited for large, well established marine systems. Its dramatic coloration, black body with a blue green facial mask, yellow forehead, and bright yellow caudal fin accented by a blue green band. Males can be distinguished from females by their slightly longer body shape and speckled yellow facial pattern, a rare example of visible morphological differences between sexes in angelfish.

Juveniles should be introduced to an aquarium with an acclimation box or raised in a refugium or smaller aquarium before being introduced to larger or aggressive fish.

With a care level rated as moderate and a semi aggressive temperament, the False Personifer requires thoughtful planning when it comes to tank setup and tank mates. A minimum aquarium size of 180 gallons is recommended for an adult, with abundant live rock for grazing and territory, along with ample open swimming space.

When it comes to compatibility, this species is best housed as an adult with other semi aggressive to moderately assertive fish such as tangs, larger wrasses, and robust community species. Avoid keeping it with timid fish that may be bullied, or with other large angelfish unless the system is exceptionally spacious. Introducing tank mates carefully and providing defined territories helps reduce aggression.

Reef compatibility is considered “with caution.” The False Personifer is known to nip at both stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles and other sessile invertebrates. For this reason, it is generally better suited to fish only systems or reefs stocked with hardy corals and managed with close observation.

As an omnivore, the False Personifer benefits from a varied and nutrient rich diet. Raised on small pellets and frozen foods, these captive bred fish are easier to keep than wild caught fish, Feed foods like Easy Reefs DKI 0.8mm pellets, Spirulina brine shrimp, maarine algae, and high quality angelfish preparations. A consistent, diverse feeding regimen supports immune health, vibrant coloration, and helps reduce the likelihood of coral nipping behavior. With proper care and space, this angelfish becomes a commanding and rewarding centerpiece in large marine aquariums.

These fish can not be delivered on Fridays. During checkout, please choose on the calendar a delivery date on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday only.
