Enchelyurus flavipes - The Flametail Blenny, also known as the Yellowtail Black Blenny, features a sleek black body accented by bright yellow anal, caudal, and posterior dorsal fins. This energetic and personable blenny is often mistaken for the popular Bicolor Blenny, but it can be distinguished by its more rounded head and caudal fin, and by the absence of the small cirri between the eyes that are present on Ecsenius bicolor.
In the wild, adult Flametail Blennies inhabit shallow coral reefs in the Western Pacific, including the South China Sea. They are most often seen perching on rocks near the bottom, occasionally moving higher on the reef to graze on algal films and filamentous algae. This natural behavior makes them well suited for reef aquariums with established rockwork and available grazing surfaces.
The Flametail Blenny is generally peaceful and compatible with corals and most invertebrates, though it may show territorial behavior toward other blennies, small gobies, or dartfish. Proaquatix specimens are fully weaned onto a nutritionally complete pelletized diet and should also be offered marine algae, Spirulina, and frozen foods such as ocean plankton, Mysis shrimp, or brine shrimp for optimal health and coloration.
Captive-bred by Proaquatix, these blennies are hardy, disease-resistant, and trained to eat pellets, flakes, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp, Mysis, and chopped seafood. Their small adult size and calm demeanor make them a great choice for both nano and full-sized reef aquariums.
