Alveopora sp. - This flowerpot coral has been growing in our Biota Florida facility for many years, and we are now offering in-house grown frags.
These unique and interesting corals resemble pots of flowers - purple stalks tipped with green flower-like polyps extend from a rounded base. The polyps will be closed when it arrives, but be sure to give it plenty of room to expand, as the tentacles significantly stretch out of the base. This sought after variety is a favorite among the Biota employees and our customers; don't miss your chance to take one home.
Wild Flowerpot corals have a reputation for doing poorly in captivity, but Alveopora in general are hardier and more adaptable than the "other flowerpot coral," the Goniopora. Even better, aquacultured varieties like the Groovy Starchild have proven over time to thrive and grow in home aquariums unlike some of their wild counterparts.
This species does best with gentle, moderate to high flow and moderate light. Be sure to acclimate it slowly to the light when first added to the aquarium, as they're prone to bleaching in bright light. Regular feedings of coral foods like Goniopower, Coral Frenzy, and Reef Roids are important. Maintain stable alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, and trace elements for health and proper skeleton growth.
