Amphiprion bicinctus - The Proaquatix captive bred Bicinctus Clownfish is distinguished by its vibrant yellow-orange body and two clean white stripes, one encircling the head and operculum and the other running vertically at mid-body. Each fish also has a larger, flowing tail and dorsal fin that accentuate its graceful swimming style.
In the wild this species inhabits the waters of the Red Sea where it forms a symbiotic relationship with sea anemones such as the Bubble Tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) and the Sebae Anemone (Heteractis crispa). Although Proaquatix-bred Bicinctus do not require anemone hosts in captivity they will readily accept them if present, often adopting nearby corals and rockwork as surrogate homes.
Like all clownfish Bicinctus are sequential hermaphrodites in which the largest fish becomes female and the next largest becomes male. Their social hierarchy is important to establish in pairs or small groups and the presence of the dominant female influences the growth and behavior of the male.
These captive-bred Bicinctus arrive tank-ready and have been trained to accept prepared diets including high-quality pellets and flakes as well as freshly frozen invertebrates such as mysis shrimp and ocean plankton. Their aquacultured origins make them hardier and easier to acclimate than wild-caught specimens. Reef-safe and generally reef-friendly they add dramatic color and personality to any marine aquarium while supporting sustainable aquaculture practices.
