Clarion x Passer Angelfish

Details

Holacanthus clarionensis x Holacanthus passer - Two of the Eastern Pacific’s most sought after angelfish come together in this captive bred hybrid. The Passer Angelfish, also called the King Angelfish, is known for its beauty and personality. The Clarion Angelfish, with its rarity and intense coloration, is a true “Holy Grail” fish. Their hybrid is even rarer and more unusual than either parent.

In the past, this cross was occasionally collected in the wild along the Pacific coast of Mexico, where the ranges of the two species overlap. Because collection of Clarion Angelfish is now highly restricted, seeing one of these hybrids in the aquarium hobby is exceptionally uncommon.

These captive bred fish carry some of the best traits of both parents. The Clarion influence brings golden orange tones, while the Passer influence adds intense blues, darker coloration, and the characteristic vertical bar. Every individual blends the two a little differently, so no two look quite alike.

These fish are feeding 3+ times a day on small pellets like Easy Reefs DKI pellets, and their diet should also include a variety of omnivore foods including angelfish-specific frozen diets with sponge.

Rare fish are always exciting, but captive breeding lets us see animals that have become extraordinarily difficult to obtain from the wild.
