Chaetodontoplus conspicillatus - The Conspicuous Angelfish is a sought after large species of angelfish with a unique appearance and highly contrasting colors. Adults have a taupe colored body with a yellow face and neon blue "eyeglasses." The dorsal fin has a sharp black outline and bright white edges. The tail is half yellow and half black.
As wild caught, this species is considered to be difficult to keep, and many other vendors exempt them from any livestock guarantees. These fish are captive bred in the USA and are well conditioned and hardier than wild caught, even eating easy-to-feed prepared foods. This is why we can offer a generous 7 day livestock guarantee. It's very important for long term health to offer a wide variety of foods to these omnivores that includes angelfish specific foods containing sponge and tunicate which are essential to its diet. They also readily consume small pellets, frozen mysis, Spirunlina brine shrimp, and seaweed. Young fish should be fed an average of 3 - 5x a day.
This species is semi-aggressive as an adult and reef safe with caution, as it may pick at coral polyps, LPS corals, soft corals, and clams. The maximum adult size is 10", but 6" adults are more common. It's imperative to use an acclimation box when introducing these young ~2" fish to a tank with established fish. These fish do best in a mature aquarium with area for grazing.
