Harlequin Tuskfish

Choerodon fasciatus - The Harlequin tuskfish is a beautiful member of the wrasse family. These colorful and personality filled fish often become quick aquarium favorites for their outgoing behaviors. These are currently juveniles and will end up growing to a size of up to 10" so they require a larger aquarium (150G+ long term) and typically prefer aquariums with a good amount of rubble or rockwork. These juveniles are bred in Bali, but the parents are from Australian stock with more bright red coloration.

The harlequin tuskfish is not a "reef safe" fish as they tend to go after clean up crews, invertebrates, or small fish. Typically semi-aggressive in adulthood, they do best in fish only aquarium with similarly sized fish. When they reach adulthood they have vertical red-orange and white striping with hints of blue accents as well as large blue "Tusk" teeth used for crunching small invertebrates. They are feeding entirely on prepared diets and prefer a more meaty diet of frozen chopped silversides, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, Formula 2 frozen feeds, and DKI pellets. We recommend introducing new fish with an acclimation box.
