Striped Blenny Proaquatix (Friday Delivery)

Details

Meiacanthus grammistes - The Striped Fang Blenny is easily recognized by its bold horizontal black and white stripes, which gradually fade into a yellow wash toward the head. Its streamlined body and curious nature make it a standout addition to reef tanks, where it often hovers mid-water near rock crevices or darts in and out of hiding spots.

Native to a wide range across the Pacific, from Southern Japan to the Great Barrier Reef, this species plays a unique role in the reef ecosystem. Like others in its genus, M. grammistes has a mild venomous bite, used strictly for defense. This natural defense mechanism, along with its vibrant warning coloration, protects it from predators. It's so effective that several harmless fish species mimic this blenny’s look to avoid being eaten.

Despite its built-in defenses, this is a peaceful, reef-safe fish that typically ignores both corals and other fish species. It’s well suited to community reef tanks and does especially well in tanks with plenty of live rock and open swimming space.

Captive-bred by Proaquatix, these blennies are hardy, disease-resistant, and trained to eat pellets, flakes, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp, Mysis, and chopped seafood. Their small adult size and calm demeanor make them a great choice for both nano and full-sized reef aquariums.

When combining Proaquatix with Biota fish in the same order, please choose a Friday delivery.
