Paracanthurus hepatus - Are you looking for Dory, but don't want to take fish from the wild? We recently announced this new project and are now offering 100% captive bred Biota Blue Tang in small batches.

Blue is an exceptionally rare color in nature, and few animals sport the deep, velvety blue color that the Blue Tang does. A contrasting black "art pallet" pattern and yellow tail gives the fish even more visual interest. This fish is not only beautiful, but is also known for having a lot of personality.

Blue Tang are mostly peaceful and reef safe. They may fight with conspecifics, but get along well with most other species. Many reefers have added a baby Biota tang to their aquarium with already established tangs. Check out our guide to mixing multiple tangs together in the same tankThey grow relatively large with a typical size in captivity around 8", but males can grow to almost a foot long. Feed diets rich in marine algae and some meaty foods. Our captive bred Blue Tang like tiny pellet foods like DKI pellets, seaweed, and other prepared diets like frozen Spirulina brine and Calanus.

~ 1" - 1.25"

We have two options available -

1. with blemish

2. without noticeable blemish - small blemish usually confined to the black bar where it isn't as noticeable, or without blemish at all

Photo 2 shows an example fish without noticeable blemish, photo 3 shows an example fish with blemish. This species, whether wild caught or captive bred, commonly has a cosmetic condition called Marine Head and Lateral Line Erosion that causes erosion around the head, face, and lateral line. The condition is not dangerous to the fish and we feel doesn't take away from their beauty at all. The condition can come and go over the course of a blue tang's life, and is very often totally reversible given stability, excellent conditions and diet.
